APPLICATION EXAMPLES
Where it's used
Explore the materials, joints and workshop tasks below. Match the fastener size and tool to your own workpiece before ordering.
Timber-backed protective sheets
Evaluate a broad crown on protective material supported by a timber fixing rail.
Supported crate-liner trials
Test indentation and pull-through on the proposed liner before approving a wide-crown staple.
Protective-pad retention samples
Compare the broad staple bridge on a timber-backed protective pad using the actual material.

P40 / 2638 Series 17 Gauge Wide Crown Staples: check the entire cross-section
A familiar series number helps identify a starting point. The crown width, wire width, wire thickness and leg length determine whether a candidate staple matches the tool and joint.
1. Record the crown width and confirm the supplier’s measurement convention on the order drawing.
2. Record both dimensions of the wire cross-section; gauge alone is insufficient.
3. Choose a listed leg length for the material stack and required penetration.
4. Compare the dimensions with the exact stapler model and approve a sample.
Choose for your workpiece and equipment
01
Specify all heavy-wire dimensions
The reference is 17GA, 1.57 × 1.25 mm wire and 26.5 mm crown. A P label or an approximately one-inch crown is insufficient for substitution.
02
Use the actual variant list
Listed legs are 16, 19, 25, 30 and 36 mm. Request any other length explicitly rather than reading 38 or 40 mm from the heading.
03
Validate application approval
Assess leg seating, pull-through and substrate damage on the intended assembly. Building systems require their own fastener specification and applicable approval evidence.
DEFINE THE ORDER, NOT JUST THE FASTENER
Packing, samples and order documentation.
Quantity & packing unit
State your quantity in pieces, strips, reels, boxes or cartons. Confirm the conversion between inner packs and shipping cartons.
Samples & minimum order
Send the selected specification and trial quantity. Sample availability, minimum order and lead time will be checked for the requested configuration.
Labels & documentation
Discuss custom packing, private labels and required drawings or documents before order approval. Keep an agreed sample, label and specification reference for repeat orders.
Questions before you order
Does wide crown mean carton-closing staple?
No. Closing unsupported cartons can require a distinct staple and clinching mechanism. Describe the package and tool before selecting a product.
Can it be used for roofing?
Only where the roof system explicitly permits the exact staple. A broad application label is not evidence of compliance.
Application limits to check
- Do not claim interchangeability with 16GA SENCO P-wire staples.
- Do not substitute this product into shingle roofing, structural sheathing or electrical cable fixing without an approved specification.
